Arsenal Team Up With Planet Liga For Green Football Tournament

If you’re an Arsenal fan, you might be interested to hear that your club is partnering with the British soccer climate action network planet liga for its new green tournament for fans. The unique sustainability competition launched in October with the aim of empowering football fans to reduce their carbon footprint and help tackle climate change, while rewarding the clubs who get behind it most. The campaign has been endorsed by 12 County FAs and has already seen thousands of grassroots football clubs, including Fleetwood Town Community Trust, sign up to take part, with free classroom materials available for schools to support the activity.
Planet liga has previously worked with many of the UK’s top-flight clubs to encourage them to improve their environmental impact, but this is the first time that clubs and their supporters will be competing against each other in an eco-friendly tournament. The competition is called the Planet League Cup and, unlike most other football tournaments, the team who wins is the one with the most “green goals” scored by its fans over five weeks. These are points earned for taking climate-friendly actions, such as having a meat-free meal, using public transport, or filling a reusable bottle with water.
The team with the most green goals Planetliga earns the Planet League trophy and is awarded a holiday to the UK, while the individual fan who scores the most goals will win a stay at an Eco-Lodge in the UK. The clubs that compete in the tournament are also encouraged to share their progress on social media and to work with Planet liga on educational activities for their fans.
The Arsenal partnership is part of a wider initiative by the club to reduce its carbon emissions, which include reducing waste, recycling more, and switching from plastics to aluminum. The club has also recently announced an energy efficiency partnership with a German company, and is planning to build a solar farm on its training ground in North London. Report this page
